Creating the Representation We’ve Been Missing

Do you know what it feels like to be invisible? We Are the Audience examines what representation repairs for people who stutter, and what it feels like when we finally see ourselves.

Co-created by stuttering filmmaker Geneviève Lamoureux, the film features a cast of people who stutter, both in front of and behind the camera. Born from doctoral research with the stuttering community at Université de Montréal, We Are the Audience offers a rare cinematic moment: a community reimagining how they wish to be seen.

More than a call for better representation, this is proof of what becomes possible when communities take the mic and the camera.

Availability

We Are the Audience is currently on the festival circuit and will be released online afterwards. It has been selected for the ReelAbilities Film Festival at the Whitney Museum (New York, April 2026) and the Shiny Awards (New York, 2025), and was longlisted for the 1.4 Awards of Brilliant Filmmaking (London, 2026).
